FeaturesRoute

One address, the right destination for each visitor

A link is an address plus instructions for each kind of visitor. Every request is routed on its own: the app if it is installed, the right store if it is not, a hand-off page inside other apps, and a landing page on a desktop.

One link

yourapp.dl2.app/invite/42

Universal Link

Straight from the message into the app, on the invite.

How it works

  1. 01

The phone may never ask us

If the app is installed and the tap came from somewhere that honours Universal Links or App Links, the operating system opens the app directly. The SDK then asks DL2App what the link means and hands your code a path and data.

  2. 02

    Otherwise the request is read

The device, the browser, and whether it is a browser inside another app are worked out from the request.

  3. 03

Link state and rules are checked

Disabled, expired, over its click limit or password-protected comes first. Then targeting rules run top to bottom, and the first one that matches wins.

  4. 04

    The platform decision applies

App Store, Google Play with the link carried through the install, a hand-off page, a landing page with a QR code, or a preview for chat apps. Each default can be changed per project or per link.

What is included

  • Targeting rules by country, operating system and language.
  • A/B variants that split web destinations by weight. A visitor keeps the same variant.
  • Expiry with a URL to send people to afterwards, and a click limit.
  • Password protection: visitors enter it once before being routed.
  • Sub-paths, so /summer/anything routes like /summer with the rest passed to the app.
  • Passthrough: an address that matches no link still opens the app at that path, so every URL of your website pattern can be a deep link.
  • Query forwarding and campaign tags (UTM) per link.

Where it stops

  • A/B variants split web destinations, not screens inside the app.
  • Some in-app browsers strip query strings. Put what the app needs in the path and the link data.
  • A link that is flagged for abuse shows a warning page instead of redirecting, on any plan.

The detail

Start with one link

The free plan has no time limit and needs no card. Create a project, add your app, and send yourself the link.
