For the browsers that will not open apps

Apps such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and X open links in a browser of their own. Those browsers often keep the visitor inside, so Universal Links and App Links do not fire and your app does not open. The hand-off page is what gets people out.

How it works

  1. 01

    The in-app browser is detected

From the request, and recorded by name, so you can see in analytics which app the tap came from.

  2. 02

    A hand-off page is served

Your app's name and icon, and one real button. A tap on a real link that crosses to a second host is the thing these browsers most reliably pass to the operating system.

  3. 03

    The store is the fallback

From the same page, if the app is not installed.

What is included

  • A second host for every project (yourapp-alt.dl2.app) that “open in app” buttons point at. The SDK and the page handle this for you.
  • No ads and nothing else on the page.
  • A setting to send in-app browsers straight to the store instead.
  • A debug link on every link’s page that behaves as Instagram’s browser would see it.

Where it stops

  • Nobody can force an in-app browser to open your app without a tap. If a vendor claims it, test it.
  • The button is not guaranteed in every version of every app. These browsers change without notice.
  • Nothing replaces tapping your link inside the real apps on a real phone before a campaign.
